Art Department Brochure

Graphic Design A, Project 5: Fullerton Art Department Brochure. Created with Adobe Illustrator. Our class was assigned to create a brochure for the CSUF art department, using the exact text that they asked for and correct use of the schools logo. I began by shooting my own pictures around campus. With Illustrator I designed a brochure in mind that I wanted to create something colorful and unique. Anything away from the standard business brochures. I have included the outside and inside design of the brochures. The top photo (from left to right) consists of the inside flap, back panel, and front panel. The one below is more self explanatory, just without the folds.

Toy Story Movie Poster

Illustration B, Project 4, Movie Poster (actual size). Created with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I began this project first by choosing the movie Toy Story3, and gathering memorable images. In Illustrator I then designed the arrangement that you see before you. With a wacom tablet, I began on the line work, and once finished, continued to paint it in Photoshop. This is the very first time I used Photoshop to paint. Again, this is a project that you really need to zoom in on to see all of the details since its not at actually size. I used a variety of textures that unfortunately cannot be seen at such a small size. However, I hope you enjoy it anyways.  It was a lot of work, but the outcome was worth it!

Chuck Close inspired portrait

Illustration B Project 3, Chuck Close Inspired Portraits. Created through Adobe Illustrator. Working with a grid, I had to individually paint each "diamond" for my profile by sampling different skin tones, hair, etc. This is one of those projects where you have to zoom in really close to appreciate the amount of detail. Each tiny diamond shpae is technically a painting in itself, while upon being zoomed out makes up...ME :)

Spam Advertisement

Graphic Design A, Project 4: Product Ad, Design Strategy. Created through Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The assignment was to create a highly distinctive, graphically challenging, full color, promotional ad for Hormel Foods product, Spam. The real challenge was to make Spam cool and contemporary. I mean, have you ever seen the stuff? Not too attractive if I do say so myself. But hopefully this ad makes you think otherwise! I tried to keep the focus on contemporary typography and overall simplicity. As I quick side project, we also had to turn our finished ads into a billboard. Now go eat some Spam mmk?

Type History Poster

Typography C, Project 2: Type History Poster. Created through Adobe Illustrator. The assignment was to design a poster that showcased a classic type face; and I chose to work with the font, American Typewriter. Part 1 was to design a monochrome poster; only working with white, black, and grey. Part 2 consisted of two colored variations. I began by choosing a direct complementary scheme, focusing with blue and orange. Eventually my idea evolved into using warm tones for one of the colored posters and cool tones on the other. I like the retro feel, hope you do to :)

Joke Napkin

Illustration B Project 2, "King's Fish House" Joke Napkin Illustrations. Created through scanned pencil sketches and Adobe Illustrator. I had to choose 2 (extremely cheesy) Ocean-Themed jokes, and visually capture them while keeping a consistent style. The project was based off of the joke napkins used by the restaurant, King's Fish House. I purposely chose two "whale" jokes so I could use similar characters (they use octopuses), and a very simple color pallet.

Type & Emotion, Famous Quotes

Graphic Design A, Project 3: Type & Emotion, Famous Quotes. With the use of Adobe Illustrator, I had to design a "family suite" of 3 typographic poster solutions using famous quotes chosen by the professor. I chose the category, "The Meaning of Life" with quotes by John Lennon, J.M. Barrie, and...a fortune cookie :)
